Kalyan: Heavy rains over the past two days have led to the submersion of the Runde bridge on the Kalu River in Kalyan taluka, cutting off communication between 10 to 12 villages and causing significant disruption to daily life.

Villages affected by the bridge’s submersion include Runde, Ambivali, Fizgaon, Nadgaon Ushid, Madh, Danbav, Palasoli, Shei, Amberje, Kakadpada, Kumbharpada, and Gerse. The low height of the bridge has exacerbated the situation, leading to its inundation and cutting off crucial connections with Vasind, Khadavli, and Titwala areas.

The ongoing issue of the new bridge construction remains unresolved, compounding the problems faced by local residents. The flooding has severely impacted patients, school students, and business owners, disrupting their daily routines and access to essential services.

Local resident Paramveer Patil reported that this is the second time this year’s monsoon has caused significant flooding of the Runde Kalu river, intensifying the hardships for the affected villagers. According to Tehsildar Sachin Shejal, Kalyan taluk has received a total rainfall of 1,268 mm, with 59 mm recorded on the day of the flooding. The Kalu River has surpassed its danger warning level in the Titwala area.
