In a significant move to restore order and safety in the city, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation has successfully removed illegal two-wheeler parking which had persisted for the past 20 years under the flyover near Shahad Railway Station.
The commissioner, Manisha Awhale, took immediate action upon assuming her role, leading a municipal team under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner Alka Pawar, with support from the traffic police.
Shahad Railway Station serves as a vital hub for thousands of daily commuters, and unauthorized parking has become a major concern for both locals and passengers.
Complaints had been mounting regarding the illegal parking practices, which included reports of individuals extorting money from passengers for parking in the area. This not only posed safety risks but also impacted the municipal treasury's revenue.
Upon her appointment, Commissioner Awhale prioritized the crackdown on illegal parking throughout the city. Following her directive, Assistant Commissioner Pawar and her team, along with traffic police, executed a comprehensive operation to dismantle the illegal parking setup near Shahad Railway Station. The successful removal of the parking lot has been met with approval from the community, who have long awaited action on this pressing issue.
In light of this operation, the Municipal Corporation has announced that similar actions will be taken against other illegal parking areas across Ulhasnagar. The administration aims to ensure that citizens benefit from official parking systems while simultaneously addressing revenue losses for the Municipal Corporation.
While citizens have expressed satisfaction with the recent crackdown, there remains a pressing need for long-term solutions to the parking challenges faced in various parts of the city. The community is now looking to the municipal corporation for concrete plans regarding the establishment of official parking facilities.
Assistant Commissioner Alka Pawar said, "As per the orders of the Commissioner, action has been taken against illegal parking in the Shahad railway station area. The administration has given instructions to take action against such illegal parking in other places in the city as well. The action will continue accordingly”.
