In a rare and exciting sighting, three golden foxes were spotted roaming the wetlands near Sector 25, Kharghar. The sighting was captured on camera by bird watcher Pradeep Choudhary, a resident of Sector 10, Kharghar, during a bird-watching session recently.
Choudhary, accompanied by fellow bird enthusiast Dr. Siddharth Pawar, was exploring the mangroves adjacent to Sector 25 when the foxes appeared. The golden foxes, known for their elusive nature, were photographed moving through the wetland area, adding a thrilling dimension to the biodiversity of Kharghar’s natural habitats.
The wetlands and mangroves near Kharghar are home to a variety of native and migratory birds, especially during the winter months. This vast expanse of mangroves also supports a rich ecosystem that attracts not only avian species but also terrestrial wildlife like the golden foxes.
Golden fox sightings are relatively uncommon in urban-adjacent areas, making this encounter noteworthy. Experts believe that the sighting underscores the ecological importance of preserving wetlands and mangrove ecosystems, which serve as vital habitats for a wide range of species.
Speaking about the experience, Pradeep Choudhary said, “It was an exhilarating moment to witness these creatures in their natural habitat. The wetlands are not just for birds but also provide refuge to other wildlife like these golden foxes.”
