The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has announced a 50% discount on bus ticket fares for women. The concession, approved by Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Kailas Shinde, will be implemented from October 14, 2024, as part of the Maharashtra government's ‘Women Empowerment’ campaign.

The discounted fare will apply to 77 bus routes, including 40 general and 37 air-conditioned services, covering various destinations in and around the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area. These routes connect major locations such as Mumbai, Borivali, Thane, Dombivli, Kalyan, Dahisar, Ambernath, Badlapur, Panvel, Ulwe Node, Khopoli, Karjat, and Vashivali/Rasayani.

The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 80,000 women commuters who travel daily on NMMT buses, accounting for around 40% of the over two lakh daily passengers. The announcement was initially made by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony of various civic facilities and projects by the NMMC.

Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has urged women to take full advantage of this travel discount, which aims to make commuting more affordable and accessible for female passengers in Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas.
