Following the implementation of new fare rates for taxis and auto rickshaws across all cities under the MMRDA area, which went into effect on February 1st. As per the revised fare structure, the base fare for rickshaw travel has increased from Rs. 23 to Rs. 26. In line with this change, meter calibration for rickshaws in Navi Mumbai commenced on February 15.

So far, around 500 auto rickshaws have undergone meter calibration in the city. Navi Mumbai has over 37,000 rickshaws, with a significant number operating on both a per-seat and meter-based system.

Due to the fare revision, passengers traveling by meter will now have to pay Rs. 26 for the first leg of their journey.

Despite the ongoing calibration process, a large number of rickshaw drivers have yet to update their meters. The calibration work began after the company responsible for meter software updates rolled out the necessary modifications.

“Four hundred to five hundred rickshaw meters have been calibrated in Navi Mumbai so far. This process started after the company updated the software,” said Gajanan Gawande, Sub-Regional Officer, RTO.

Authorities have urged all rickshaw drivers to complete the calibration process promptly to avoid discrepancies in fare collection and ensure smooth travel for passengers.
