Thane: The home voting initiative for senior citizens above 85 years of age and disabled voters has received a positive response in Thane district, with 746 citizens casting their votes from the comfort of their homes over the last three days. The program, which began on November 9, 2024, allows voters who are unable to visit polling stations to exercise their right to vote.
In the first three days, home voting took place across 12 of the 18 assembly constituencies in the district, from November 9 to November 11, 2024. The constituencies included Bhiwandi Rural, Shahapur (ST), Kalyan West, Murbad, Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan East, Dombivli, Ovala Majiwada, Kopri Pachpakhadi, Thane, and Kalwa Mumbra.
Out of the total 746 voters, 651 were senior citizens aged over 85 years, while 95 were disabled voters. The initiative has been well-received, with many expressing gratitude for the Election Commission of India’s efforts to ensure that these vulnerable groups are not left out of the democratic process.
The home voting process, which will continue until November 17, 2024, has proved to be an essential service, ensuring that all eligible voters, regardless of their physical limitations, can participate in the upcoming General Assembly Election.
