In a special campaign launched by the Navi Mumbai Traffic Department, strict action was taken against 425 rickshaw drivers who refused passenger fares. The operation, conducted between November 27 and 29, involved traffic police officers posing as passengers in plain clothes to identify errant drivers.

The campaign was prompted by numerous complaints from passengers about rickshaw drivers refusing fares and operating irresponsibly. Despite prior meetings with rickshaw unions and drivers, urging them to follow regulations, violations continued to persist.

To address the issue, officials from the 16 traffic branches under the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate devised a plan to monitor drivers covertly. By acting as regular passengers, the officers identified those refusing fares and penalized them.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic ), Tirupathi Kakade, emphasized that the department remains committed to maintaining smooth traffic flow and will continue its crackdown on rule-breaking rickshaw drivers. He also appealed to rickshaw owners and drivers to cooperate with the authorities by adhering to traffic laws and providing fair services to passengers.
