All-party campaign to abolish unfair CIDCO transfer charges in Navi Mumbai gains momentum

Navi Mumbai: A united front of political parties in Navi Mumbai has launched a campaign to abolish the unfair CIDCO transfer charges, which have long been a financial burden on property buyers in the city. Led by Adv. Anil Kaushik, President of the Navi Mumbai District Congress Committee and former Deputy Mayor, the initiative is gaining support from common citizens and political leaders across party lines.

The CIDCO transfer charges, initially introduced to fund the city's development, are seen as outdated and unjust. Despite the formation of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in 1992, CIDCO continues to levy these fees on property transfers, often leading to what critics call "double taxation." According to Adv. Kaushik, "CIDCO's role in developing Navi Mumbai has diminished, but the transfer charges remain a heavy financial burden for property buyers, especially for those purchasing at market rates."

The campaign highlights the lack of transparency regarding the use of these funds and the unfairness of imposing transfer fees on properties bought through market-rate tenders. Advocates like Shyambhau Kadam, State Joint Secretary of AAP Maharashtra, have called for unity among Navi Mumbaikars and political parties to demand the complete abolition of these charges, which only benefit CIDCO and the Maharashtra State Government.

As part of the campaign, citizens are being encouraged to sign a petition and support the movement by filling out a simple Google form. The organizers are urging all residents to come together and stand against these unfair charges, which have become a significant financial burden for homebuyers in Navi Mumbai.
