Police launch search for assailants
In a shocking incident near Juinagar railway station, Rajaram Toke (48), a garbage collection contractor at the APMC market, was shot at by two assailants on a bike on Friday morning around 10 a.m. Toke sustained serious injuries after being struck by four bullets and is currently undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital in Vashi.
The incident occurred when Toke, a resident of Ghatkopar, visited the municipal corporation's divisional office near Juinagar railway station for work. Around 9:45 a.m., two attackers approached him on a bike and opened fire, discharging 5 to 6 rounds from their revolvers. Four of the bullets struck Toke, leaving him critically injured. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Sanpada police, along with a Crime Branch team, rushed to the spot and initiated a search operation. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to trace the attackers.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may have stemmed from a dispute related to Toke's contract for garbage collection at the APMC market. Police are looking into all possible angles, but the injured contractor is currently unable to provide a statement due to his condition.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-1) Pankaj Dahane stated that efforts are underway to gather more information about the incident, and the police are committed to apprehending the culprits.
