Avaada Otters Squash Open 2025 From 14th January Onwards

Mumbai: Around 400 players from across 17 states across India will be competing in the ‘Avaada Otters Squash Open 2025’ tournament that is set to commence at the Otters Squash Courts in Bandra, Mumbai from 14 to 18 January, 2025.

Touted as one of the most eagerly awaited events on the Indian squash calendar, the same is a PSA satellite event for Men and Women and boasts a total prize of USD 2000 for the winners and promises to deliver a thrilling spectacle for players and fans alike.

The event will witness competition in under-11 to under-19 age groups for Boys and Girls , open categories for Men and Women. Additionally, Senior-level matches will be held in the Men’s above-40 years category, further broadening the appeal of the competition.

This year, Avaada, a leading energy company, has come on board as the title sponsor of the tournament. Expressing the group’s enthusiasm, Sindoor Mittal, Vice Chairperson of Avaada Group, stated, “At  Avaada, we are deeply committed to promoting sports and creating opportunities for our youth. Sports play an instrumental role in shaping character, discipline and resilience. Through our support for the Otters Club Squash Tournament, we aim to inspire young talent and foster the next generation of Indian sports stars, while contributing to a brighter, more inclusive future".

As may be recalled the 2028 Summer Olympics will include the sport of squash for the first time as an optional sport in which India too would be participating in it as per Arjuna and Padma Shree awards recipient Joshna Chinappa who has won 18 national titles and two time Asian individual champion recently on the sidelines of TMM 2025 countdown event. The popular racket sport that is played in Singles or Doubles format had previously been rejected from the Olympic Games on four occasions in a row. The World Squash Federation, the governing body of the game, has declared its intention to apply for squash's inclusion at the 2032 Summer Olympics.

The tournament’s significance was further underscored by Ayaz Kazi, president of Otters Club, who shared, “That for years, the Otters Club Squash Tournament has been a cornerstone of grassroots squash development in India, providing young players with a platform to showcase their talent and advance their skills. The event has cultivated a legacy of fostering passion for the sport and contributing to its growth in the country".
