Kalyan: Akshay Shinde, the accused in the shocking case of sexual abuse involving two minor school girls in Badlapur, was produced in the Kalyan Court on Wednesday under heavy police protection. The court, presided over by Special Women Judge V.A. Patravale remanded Shinde to police custody until August 26. The prosecution in the case was led by Public Prosecutor Ashwini Bhamre Patil.

Given the public outrage and the demands for severe punishment, including calls for the accused to be hanged, the police had deployed a large force both in the Kalyan Court and the surrounding area to maintain law and order. There were concerns that the accused might be attacked due to the heightened tensions among the parents and citizens of Badlapur.

In a related development, the Kalyan Bar Association, led by President Prakash Jagtap, announced that no lawyers from the association would represent Akshay Shinde. The association unanimously decided not to issue a lawyer's letter for his defense.

Meanwhile, 22 protesters who were arrested in connection with the violent agitation at Badlapur railway station were presented in the Lohmarg court by the Kalyan railway police. These protesters had been involved in serious offenses, including gathering crowds, stopping trains, vandalizing the station area, and pelting stones at the police. The court sentenced them to 14 days in judicial custody. The Kalyan and Badlapur Lawyers Associations, however, argued in court for the release of these agitators without compensation.

The Kalyan Lohmarg police station has registered cases against over 300 people for their involvement in the violent protests, which caused significant disruption and tension in the area. The police are continuing their investigation and are actively searching for other participants involved in the unrest.

An altercation also broke out between the railway police and the agitators' lawyers at the Kalyan railway police station. The lawyers accused the railway police of misconduct, alleging that they were verbally abused when they attempted to collect signatures from the detained agitators. The lawyers have demanded legal action against the police officers involved and called for the withdrawal of cases against the protesters.
