Badlapur: The construction of a crucial tunnel on the Vadodara-JNPT highway, connecting Badlapur to Panvel, has been completed in a record time of fifteen months. Originally projected to take two years, the 1.4 km long tunnel has been finished ahead of schedule, promising to cut travel time between Badlapur and Panvel to just 10 to 15 minutes.
The tunnel, which is 22 meters wide and features four lanes with interchanges at various points, represents a key phase in the ongoing Vadodara-JNPT highway project. The work on the tunnel has progressed swiftly, and while plastering is currently underway, it marks a significant milestone in the project.
Murbad MLA Kisan Kathore, a strong advocate for the highway's route through Badlapur, visited the site to inspect the completed tunnel and commend the workers for their efforts. The successful completion of this tunnel is expected to enhance connectivity significantly, reducing travel times and facilitating easier access to Mumbai via the Atal Setu.
In addition to improving travel efficiency, the new tunnel is set to boost connectivity to the Navi Mumbai Airport and is anticipated to support economic growth. The highway will facilitate the transport of a substantial amount of cargo to the JNPT port, which is expected to lead to the development of commercial hubs and godowns along the route, generating local employment opportunities.
