Ensures minimal impact on services

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking has deployed 657 buses for election duty on November 19 and 20, 2024, as part of its support for the Assembly General Elections. This allocation follows a requisition from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and includes special arrangements for Divyang and senior citizens.

BEST spokesperson Satyawan Ithape confirmed that while the RTO initially requested over 1,250 buses, BEST balanced the election requirements with its commitment to commuter services. “We’ve allocated 657 buses, including 230 single-decker buses, 427 midi buses, and 35 wheelchair-accessible EV buses with automatic ramps for Divyang and senior citizens,” said Ithape.

In addition to supporting voter transportation, BEST is facilitating the mobilization of police and special forces. “Since October 14, 28 buses have been on police duty, and up to 160 buses may be required during the election period,” he added.

Despite the large-scale deployment, 2,522 of BEST's 3,179 buses will remain operational, ensuring minimal disruption for daily commuters. While no specific routes have been cancelled, passengers may experience slight adjustments in frequency on November 19 and 20.

BEST officials assured that regular services will resume immediately after the election duties are concluded, highlighting their commitment to maintaining smooth operations for both voters and commuters.
