The much-awaited "Rao Chowk," a memorial dedicated to Raja Rao Bakhsh Singh, a valiant hero of the First War of Independence in 1857, is set to be inaugurated soon in Ashok Nagar. This historic square is a tribute to the freedom fighter's courage and sacrifice and stands as a collaboration between the Maharashtra government and local administration.

Raja Rao Bakhsh Singh was a pivotal figure in the 1857 revolution, known for his rebellion against British rule and ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s independence. The newly constructed memorial blends modern and historical art, with its centre piece being a grand monument narrating the saga of Rao's bravery. Key features include a circular metal earth structure and the Shalivahan Shaurya symbol, symbolizing the valour and spirit of the Indian freedom struggle.

The project, completed after 12 years of dedicated effort, was spearheaded by Vinod Tripathi. Inspired by his grandfather Pandit Bhalbhadra Ram, a close associate of Raja Rao, Tripathi led the 13-member Shalivahan Seva Bhavi Sanstha in making this vision a reality.

The inauguration of "Rao Chowk" has generated excitement among the citizens of Bhiwandi, who view it as both a link to their rich history and an inspiration for future generations. The square is expected to become a landmark, celebrating the heroes of India’s freedom struggle and instilling patriotism and courage in the community.
