Rescue operation underway, one dead
A tragic boat capsize occurred in the afternoon of December 18, 2024 in the Arabian Sea, involving a vessel ferrying 80 passengers from Gateway of India, Mumbai, to Gharapuri Island. As per initial reports, a massive rescue operation is underway, involving officials from the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai police, the Customs Department, local fishermen, Gharapuri village sarpanch, and villagers.
Sixty passengers have been rescued, but one fatality has been reported. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining passengers.
State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Ministers Ganesh Naik and Aditi Tatkare, MLA Mahesh Baldi, and former MLA Jayant Patil, have been actively monitoring the situation. They have directed officials to expedite rescue efforts and provide assistance to those affected.
