Bumrah records highest points tally by an Indian bowler in ICC Test Rankings

Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah sensational performance in the traditional format of the cricket at the world stage in which he took 71 wickets in 13 Test Matches at average of 14.92 runs per over that saw him top of the charts for wickets in Tests in 2024 with 71 scalps, 19 more than the next best.

The same came at the back of his yet another excellent performance in the Boxing day fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne, that saw him finish with a nine-wicket match haul with the red ball at the back of his team's loss  by 184 runs while chasing a second innings target of 340 to win.

In the process the 31-year fast bowler recorded the highest ever rating points tally achieved by an Indian bowler as he consolidated his position at the top of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings and comes at the back of career best of 6 for 45 against England in the second Test that was held between 2nd – 5th February, Visakhapatnam on  a winning cause

Bumrah who wore captain’s armband in the Perth Test against Australia in the absence of Rohit Sharma, led from the front as India took an early lead in the five-Test series after winning the five match series opener by record 295 runs. For his outstanding performance he is shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award for the up from his previous tied high of 904 with ex team mate Ravichandran Ashwin. His tally of 907 rating points now places him joint-17th in the all-time list with yesteryear spinner Derek Underwood of England.

The list is led by England seamers Sydney Barnes (932) and George Lohmann (931) who played more than a century ago while Imran Khan (922) and Muttiah Muralidaran (920) are third and fourth.
