The Christian community in the city is poised to observe Good Friday on March 29th, following the commemoration of Maundy Thursday tomorrow on March 28th, marking the Last Supper of Jesus shared with His Disciples. Maundy Thursday, associated with foot-washing, emphasizes Jesus' teachings of servant leadership and love for one another.

Parishioners from Koperkhairane will observe Maundy Thursday at St. Thomas Church, Vashi, with rituals including the washing of feet and Holy Mass starting at 8 pm. The following day, on March 29th, the solemn observance of Jesus's crucifixion will take place on Good Friday. Parishioners will join for the Good Friday Passion reading at 9 am at St. Thomas Church in Vashi, followed by the Way of the Cross at 10:30 am.

"Catholic churches held Mass on Thursday night, incorporating Eucharistic celebrations with the washing of feet. We are preparing ourselves for the season with fasting, repentance, moderation, and spiritual discipline. Acts of service to mankind, the needy, and the poor will be paramount," shared Johnson John from Koperkhairane Parish.

St. Joseph Church in CBD, Belapur, will observe Maundy Thursday with Masses of Lord’s Supper at 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm, followed by prayers at the Altar of Repose. On Good Friday, the Walking Stations of the Cross will commence at 6:30 am from St. Joseph Church in Belapur, passing through various sectors before culminating in the church at 10:30 am for the Stations of the Cross.

Good Friday will begin with the Stations of the Cross, a 14-step Catholic devotion commemorating Jesus Christ's last day on Earth. These stations focus on His journey of suffering to crucifixion, starting with His condemnation. The stations serve as a mini-pilgrimage, with individuals meditating on specific events from Christ's final day. After the Stations of the Cross, devotees will gather in the church.

While Mass is not celebrated on Good Friday, Catholic churches will offer a service honouring the Lord's Passion with Holy Communion and veneration of the cross.

"Good Friday is a day of sorrow, penance, and fasting, observed in churches through readings, hymns, and prayers. The reading of the Passion narrative recounts the events leading to Jesus' death and his final words from the cross," shared Johnson John.
