Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will lay the foundation stone for the new headquarters of the Transport Department, Parivahan Bhavan, on March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde will also attend the ceremony, informed Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik.

The Transport Department was established on March 1, 1940, to regulate road traffic, and since then, Transport Day has been observed annually on this date.

Marking the occasion, Chief Minister Fadnavis will officially initiate the construction of the spacious four-storey Parivahan Bhavan at Sir Pochkhanwala Marg, Worli.

Spanning approximately 12,800 square meters, the building will feature a modern four-storey underground parking facility with the capacity to accommodate 150 four-wheelers simultaneously. The construction is expected to be completed within the next two and a half years.

Despite generating an annual revenue of Rs.15,000 crore for the state, the Transport Department has never had its own headquarters and has been operating from rented premises for the past 85 years.

After assuming office, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik prioritised this long-pending issue and actively pursued the project. His persistent efforts have finally paid off, paving the way for the Transport Department to have a dedicated headquarters.

The upcoming Parivahan Bhavan is expected to enhance the efficiency of transport administration in Maharashtra, providing a state-of-the-art facility for better public service.
