Commuters urge NMMC to fix faulty street lights near Vashi Railway Station for safety

As election preparations intensify, commuters and local residents around Vashi Railway Station are facing a growing safety concern due to malfunctioning street lights that have remained non-operational for over two weeks. The darkened streets, especially during late-night hours, are becoming increasingly hazardous for pedestrians, rickshaw drivers, and motorists who rely on the station’s busy entrance and surrounding roads.

The faulty lights, particularly near the station’s entrance and on surrounding roads, have prompted multiple complaints from daily commuters. Despite the urgent need for basic infrastructure repairs, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has not yet addressed the issue.

"The dark stretch near the station is dangerous, particularly after sunset," said one commuter. "It’s uncomfortable, and walking alone at night feels unsafe." With Vashi station bustling at all hours, many fear the lack of lighting will increase the risk of accidents, especially in the evenings and early mornings.

Sanjivani Samant, another commuter, pointed out that the situation is particularly perilous for women and the elderly. "We hoped it would be fixed after Diwali, but the situation hasn’t improved," she said.

Sandeep Yadav, an office worker, expressed frustration, saying, "It’s already difficult to navigate the crowded station. The lack of street lighting just adds to the discomfort. Authorities must take action before something serious happens."

Local residents are particularly concerned, with Niharika Jalan, a working woman, saying, "As a 9-5 worker, I often return home when it's dark. It feels unsafe walking alone at night, especially in the absence of street lights. The authorities should ensure this doesn’t happen again."
