Concerns rise over liquor shop at Nerul Station: activist demands action

The presence of a liquor shop at Nerul railway station has raised concerns among citizens, particularly due to the disturbances caused by drunkards. Following the issue Social activist Nilesh Kachare has been actively voicing his objections, submitting representations to various local and state authorities, including the Nerul police station, urging action to close the shop.

Kachare highlighted the negative impact on women, children, and residents caused by the unruly behaviour of those consuming alcohol near the station. In response, the Nerul Police Station has stated that it has taken measures against public drinking in the area and has engaged with the State Excise Superintendent, Thane District Collector, and CIDCO to explore options for relocating the liquor shop.

According to a letter from the Nerul Police Station to Kachare, efforts are underway to address the issue, including continuous monitoring of the area by the Beat Marshal and instructions to the shop owners to restrict liquor sales. The police also emphasized their commitment to take immediate action if illegal activities or public drinking are observed.

The police further assured that the concerned departments have been notified about the complaint and that follow-up actions are being pursued.
