Navi Mumbai District Congress spokesperson Ravindra Sawant has urged the Chief Minister, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner, and Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner to deny permission for the Coldplay concerts scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025, at D. Y. Patil Stadium in Nerul. Raising multiple concerns, Sawant emphasized the event's potential to disrupt local life and create safety and logistical challenges.
The highly anticipated concerts, organized by Coldplay in collaboration with ticketing platform BookMyShow, have already sold out, with tickets reportedly being resold in the black market. Sawant has called for an investigation into these black-market sales.
Highlighting the issues, Sawant stated that the event would severely impact the functioning of the nearby D.Y. Patil Hospital. "The noise levels and disruption could affect patients, with risks to their health and safety. If any adverse incidents occur, a case of culpable homicide should be filed against the organizers and stadium authorities," Sawant warned.
Sawant also criticized the lack of parking and crowd management arrangements. “Neither the event organizers nor the stadium management provide adequate parking or facilities. Spectators park haphazardly in the surrounding residential areas, causing massive traffic jams. Residents face daily inconvenience, and the police are overburdened with managing the chaos,” he added.
The Congress leader pointed out that these concerts are purely commercial ventures and not organized for any social cause, yet they place a significant strain on local infrastructure. He demanded that the stadium and event organizers take full responsibility for providing parking, toilet facilities, and maintaining order during such events.
Sawant further noted that similar issues had been faced during cricket matches and other private events at the stadium. He criticized the lack of planning by both the event organizers and local authorities, stating that the residents of Nerul and Navi Mumbai are unfairly burdened.
