Vidya Bhandekar, Congress Navi Mumbai District Secretary, has written to the commissioner of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Rajesh Narvekar, urging the immediate initiation of the approved sports complex construction at the site of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Sector 2, Nerul. The proposal for the sports complex has been included in this year's budget, and the new revised development plan outlines the transformation of the sewage disposal centre into a sports facility.
Expressing gratitude to the municipal administration, Bhandekar emphasized the necessity of replacing the wrongly placed sewage disposal centre, causing inconvenience to residents and students in the vicinity, including LIG, Shiravane Vidyalaya, and surrounding areas like Nerul Sector 2, 4, Juinagar, and opposite LIG. The persistent efforts of Congress leader Ravindra Sawant, spanning over a decade, have sought to provide sports facilities, including swimming, to the local community.
Highlighting the essential role played by Mohan Dagaonkar, the former City Engineer of the Municipal Corporation and a local resident of Nerul Sector 4, Bhandekar acknowledged his crucial involvement in addressing the long-standing issue. The sewage disposal center in Nerul Sector 2 has remained a source of discomfort for residents despite the relocation of similar facilities to the Sanpada Palm Beach area.
Bhandekar expressed concern over the delay in initiating the sports complex construction, emphasizing that the public needs the facility urgently. She noted that some political elements are spreading misinformation, creating confusion among the public. The approved sports complex has provisions in both the Development Plan and the budget, and Bhandekar urged swift action to counter misinformation and ensure timely completion.
In light of the seriousness of the situation and the need for clarity, Vidya Bhandekar called upon the municipal administration to issue instructions for the prompt commencement of the sports complex construction, assuring the public of the progress made. The early initiation of the project not only addresses a long-standing need but also prevents the spread of inaccurate information within the community.
