Viral video sparks outrage

Despite a decision by former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to make Thane district dance bar-free, dance bars have made a comeback in Ulhasnagar, particularly after the elections. A recent viral video from Aashiana Dance Bar has brought attention to the illicit operations of these bars. The video shows customers engaging in obscene acts with bar dancers, exposing the ongoing illegal activities despite the bar ban.

The city is home to several such dance bars, including Chandni Bar, Aanchal Palace, Topaz Bar, Paradise Bar, Aashiana Bar, WWF Bar, 100 Bar, and 90 Viral Video, all operating under the jurisdiction of Central and Vithalwadi police stations. In the viral video, hidden cameras captured inappropriate and explicit performances by bar girls to entertain customers.

Concerns have been raised over police involvement in allowing the bars to function openly. Local citizens are questioning the role of the police, alleging that bar owners are receiving police protection to continue their illegal operations. The video has sparked widespread criticism, revealing the police's failure to curb these activities in Ulhasnagar. While Thane police occasionally step in to take action, local law enforcement's inaction has led to growing distrust among the public.

Social activists and citizens are now calling for immediate action from the authorities to shut down these dance bars. Reports suggest that this problem is not isolated to one venue but is part of a broader network of illicit dance bars operating throughout Ulhasnagar. The growing issue has brought the city’s law and order situation under scrutiny, and the public is closely monitoring the administration's response.

In recent weeks, police have made some raids, but there is criticism that such actions are often insufficient or delayed. On December 28, a police raid conducted at the Angel Service Bar and Restaurant in Shriram Chowk led to the detention of 10 women for indecent behaviour. The following day, a raid at the 100 Days Orchestra bar resulted in the detention of 17 women. Despite these actions, citizens are questioning whether the raids are part of a more extensive crackdown or merely symbolic gestures.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Gore assured that action is being taken against bars violating the rules.
