Delay in Navi Mumbai Metro inauguration sparks criticism

The Navi Mumbai Metro, which has been prepared for passenger service for the past five months, remains unopened due to political considerations. The delay in the inauguration has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's busy schedule has become a hindrance. Navi Mumbaikars are left waiting, and many feel they are being unnecessarily exploited for political credit.  MP Rajan Vichare of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) was among those who spoke out against prioritizing political accolades over citizens' comfort. He made these remarks while leading a signature campaign to protest the delayed metro extension in Navi Mumbai.

“The Certificate of Commencement of Passenger Services for the first phase of the Navi Mumbai Metro project was granted by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) five months ago. Despite this, the metro services have yet to commence”, said MP Vichare.

In response to this delay, a protest was organized in Belapur under his guidance. The movement gained support from prominent figures like district chief Vitthal More, Dwarkanath Bhoir, district organizer Ranjana Shintre, and senior former corporator M. K. Madhvi. Hundreds of citizens joined Shiv Sena's signature campaign to voice their discontent and frustration with the government's handling of the situation.
