Shree Jagannath Temple in Kharghar commenced its annual Ratha Yatra festivities with the observance of 'Deva Snan Purnima' on June 22nd, steeped in profound religious fervour. Managed by the Maharashtra Odia Welfare Association (MOWA), the temple witnessed a magnificent celebration that drew devotees from across Mumbai and its metropolitan area.
The ceremony centred around the sacred ritual of 'Deva Snan Purnima', which involves the ceremonial bathing of the Chaturdha Murti - Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Maa Subhadra, and Chakraraj Sudarshan. Under the guidance of Dr. Bhagwan Panda, President of MOWA, this ritual was conducted with meticulous attention to Vedic traditions. A total of 108 earthen kalashes filled with scented holy water and minerals were used for the bathing ceremony, accompanied by the chanting of hymns and slokas.
Dr. Bhagwan Panda, also a distinguished Trustee of the temple, performed the essential 'Chhera Panhara' ritual, symbolizing humility and devotion by ceremonially sweeping the deities' platform. Following the holy bath, the Chaturdha Murti were adorned in the 'Gajanana Besha', portraying Lord Jagannatha in the form of Lord Ganesha. The atmosphere resonated with spiritual fervour enhanced by traditional drum beats and chants of reverence.
Beyond its religious significance, the event showcased a cultural confluence, bridging the traditions of Odisha and Maharashtra. The inclusive nature of the celebration was evident with the participation of non-Odia devotees, including several bureaucrats, underscoring the universal appeal of Lord Jagannatha's worship and the ethos of Sanatana dharma.
Dr. Panda expressed gratitude to the Trustees, Management Committee members, Advisory Board, volunteers, and all attendees for their steadfast support. He highlighted the importance of such events in preserving cultural heritage and fostering communal harmony, leaving devotees eagerly anticipating the forthcoming Rathayatra festivities.
