In an effort to conserve water, devotees of Lord Krishna celebrated Holi in a unique way by using flower petals instead of water and coloured powders. The Vashi-based Haveli temple dedicated to Lord Shreenathaji hosts this annual event with grandeur, with this year's theme focused on advocating water conservation. Organized by the temple trust 'Vaishnava Seva Samaj', the event drew hundreds of devotees from the city and Mumbai suburbs to celebrate Poonam and Holi on Monday, March 25th.
Holi, also known as 'Dol-utsav', holds special significance in the lore of Lord Krishna, depicting playful interactions between him, Radha, and the Gopiyas with colours. Devotees gathered since early morning, offering prayers and exchanging sweets, fruits, milk, and packets of Gulal. Instead of conventional colours, the celebration featured the joyful tossing of flower petals sourced from various scented varieties procured from the market.
The temple ambiance exuded charm as Lord Govardhanathaji, adorned in white attire against a white backdrop, presided over the festivities. Sevaks engaged in Holi songs and dances, creating an aesthetic atmosphere as devotees gleefully exchanged flower petals, dancing in merriment. The event concluded with devotees seeking blessings for peace and harmony from the deity.
