Diagonal parking at Shilp Chowk, Kharghar leads to traffic woes

Residents living near Shilp Chowk, Kharghar have highlighted their concerns regarding drivers diagonally parking and also double parking around this roundabout which leads to choke points being created during rush hours.

They have also requested tolling vehicles and Navi Mumbai Traffic Police to be vigilant regarding this and either warn the car owners or issue challans when necessary.

Subhash Kabnur, a citizen who tweets on issues related to Kharghar, recently tagged the X account of Navi Mumbai Police to make them aware of this issue. He tweeted saying, “At Kharghar Shilp Chowk, almost every day there are 2-3 cars parked at the circle of this area.”

Kabnur added, “Please check for such illegal parking and instances of diagonal parking. Please ensure that the lanes are kept clear at all times.”

He further said, “Diagonal parking is a new problem. Big SUVs park in such a way that in some places block half of the road. Please check these instances and take appropriate action on the matter. This is being witnessed in locations across Kharghar.”

Not only residents, but also, school buses and other buses and heavy vehicles are impacted by this issue. Although two-wheelers manage to find their way out. Other cars get stuck here, leading to arguments at times.

Anita Kelkar, another resident who lives in the locality of Shilp Chowk said, “This is a busy circle where traffic comes from four different directions. Car owners, especially those who drive large vehicles should have better civic sense and not leave their cars parked here for long periods of time. I urge the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police and also vans who pick up cars for illegal parking to pay more attention to this issue.”
