The beautification of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Garden in Seawoods Ward No. 108 has come under fire following allegations of substandard work and corruption. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) reportedly spent Rs.3-Rs.4 crore on the project, but local residents and community leaders have expressed deep dissatisfaction with its quality.
On January 20, Ram Jhende, Taluka Chief of the Republican Party of India (RPI), visited the garden after receiving numerous complaints from residents. Post-inspection, Jhende criticized the beautification work, calling it "extremely poor and unworthy of the allocated budget."
Speaking to the media, Jhende said, "The corruption here appears to be massive. It is not just a misuse of public funds but also an insult to the legacy of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, a figure deeply respected in our community.” He demanded that the NMMC undertake a complete redo of the project rather than making superficial repairs.
Jhende also called for strict action against those responsible for the alleged malpractice. “The people deserve transparency and accountability, especially for projects honouring national icons like Dr. Ambedkar,” he stated.
The RPI leader issued a one-month ultimatum to the NMMC, demanding concrete action to address the issues. “If the situation remains unchanged, the Republican Party of India will organize a large-scale protest. We will lead a Republican march from across Belapur Taluka to the NMMC office to demand justice,” warned Jhende.
