Dr. P. P. Vava lauds NMMC’s sanitation efforts during visit

Navi Mumbai: Dr. P. P. Vava, a member of the National Sanitation Staff Commission of the Central Government, visited the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) headquarters on Thursday, 12 September, and praised the municipal corporation for the city's sanitation initiatives. Dr. Vava commended the ongoing sanitation projects and the efforts made by the Municipal Corporation for Swachhatamitra and Safaimitra programs, which aim to enhance the welfare and recognition of sanitation workers.

During his visit, Dr. Vava provided valuable feedback and suggestions for further improvements, expressing confidence in the city's ability to achieve even greater results in the future.

The visit was marked by a ceremony where social consultant Mr. Girender Nath and coordinator Sandeep Charan were honoured for their contributions. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Mr. Sunil Pawar and Mr. Shirish Aardwad, along with other departmental heads and officers.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde welcomed Dr. Vava and briefed him on the city's sanitation efforts, including the focus on the welfare and facilities provided to cleaning staff. Commissioner Shinde highlighted how the terms "Swachhamitra" and "Safaimitra" are used to elevate the social status of sanitation workers, reflecting the municipality's commitment to their recognition and respect.

Dr. Vava also conducted a personal inspection of the municipal vehicles and machinery, interacting directly with the cleaners. He expressed satisfaction with the advanced state of Navi Mumbai's sanitation work compared to other cities, noting the special attention given to the safety and health of sanitation workers.
