The election vote counting process across the city created significant disruptions for daily commuters as bus routes were diverted across multiple depot divisions to accommodate operations at counting centres on 23rd November. The diversions, intended to ensure smooth functioning at strongroom centres, left passengers frustrated, with delays and confusion becoming the order of the day.
In the Dharavi Depot division, the road was closed near the counting centre at Sant Chhaya Marg forcing buses such as C72, 46, 52, 411, and 25 to be rerouted via Sion. Commuters faced extended wait times and detours, disrupting their daily schedules.
The Poisar Depot division was similarly impacted, with closures on Bajaj Road and K.N. Road. Key routes like 274, 280, 286, 281, 246, 244, 239, and 277 were diverted via S.V. Road from 5:45 a.m., leaving commuters scrambling to adjust to the sudden changes during peak hours.
In Pratiksha Nagar, buses operating in the vicinity of Sangam Nagar were diverted after Antop Hill Bus Stop, including routes 14, 15, 88, and 172, which were redirected via Sheikh Mistry Darga Marg to Wadala Flyover. Routes 110 and 117 were rerouted via Ganesh Nagar, causing further inconvenience to passengers unaware of these changes.
The Marol Depot division, known for its high commuter density, experienced diversions around Chakala Junction. Routes were redirected via Regency, Teli Galli, and Agarkar Chowk from 5:00 a.m., resulting in overcrowded buses and long delays.
In the Magathane Depot division, route 477 was curtailed at Srikrishna Nagar due to a counting centre at Abhinav Nagar, leaving regular passengers stranded, particularly during evening hours.
Other areas, including Dadar West and Worli, faced similar issues. In Worli, routes like 442, 428, and 264 were diverted via Subhash Road, starting at 6:30 a.m., while in Dadar, route 118 was curtailed due to road closures at Kabutarkhana.
Even in Backbay Depot, buses were redirected via Babulnath and Patkar Road, while in Mulund, route 370 faced diversions from Khedekar Wadi to Chafekar Bandhu Road, further adding to the chaos during peak hours.
Passengers voiced their frustration, highlighting the lack of prior notifications about the diversions. “I waited at the bus stop for nearly an hour only to find out my bus wouldn’t arrive,” said one commuter at Sion. Others questioned whether authorities had taken sufficient measures to minimize disruption.
