Encroachments near Panvel Railway Station leads to traffic chaos

top-news

Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Mangesh Chitale recently directed the encroachment department to take action against businesses operating illegally on roads and footpaths across the four wards under the corporation's jurisdiction. However, citizens in the area have voiced their dissatisfaction, particularly with the lack of action around the New Panvel Railway Station, where encroachments continue to thrive.

Handcarts lining the roads between the Panvel Railway Station and CKT School are causing significant traffic congestion. Despite the growing issue, the D Ward Anti-Encroachment Squad has not taken any significant action in this area. Locals claim that when encroachment department vehicles approach, handcart drivers are tipped off in advance and quickly move their carts into nearby alleys, evading enforcement.

Additionally, illegal food stalls have been steadily increasing on the sidewalks near the Mangal Murti Market area around the railway station. With these stalls occupying the walkways, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, which has led to a rise in accidents. The food stalls are also accused of dumping dirty water and garbage onto the roads, sidewalks, and drains, contributing to the spread of mosquitoes and unhygienic conditions in the area.
