Surrounding areas engulf in smoke

A fire broke out at the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s (NMMC) dumping ground in Turbhe on Tuesday afternoon, the blaze produced significant plumes of smoke that affected the surrounding area and areas nearby.

Fire brigade teams were dispatched to the site to manage the situation and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residential areas. The blaze could be seen from high rises in Vashi, Sanpada, and Turbhe.

The fire ignited within the landfill and quickly spread across the waste piles. Firefighters worked to contain the flames, which were visible from a distance. The presence of tangled electric cables and makeshift structures in the vicinity raised concerns about the area's susceptibility to such incidents. The plume of smoke could also be seen by commuters as the trains approached Vashi Station from Vashi Creek Bridge.

Fire tenders from the Navi Mumbai fire brigade were deployed promptly, and efforts to control the fire are ongoing. Authorities have not yet identified the cause of the fire, although similar incidents have been reported at this location in the past.

Local residents, especially slum dwellers, were afraid of the fire reaching their makeshift houses.
