Former corporator Vilas Bhoir has submitted a formal request to CIDCO Managing Director Vijay Singhal, urging the cancellation of the proposed truck terminal in Sector 26, Vashi. Bhoir's appeal comes in response to concerns raised by local residents regarding the potential hazards and traffic congestion posed by the terminal's construction.
The proposal for the truck terminal was initially put on hold in 2021 during Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's tenure as the Urban Development Minister. However, despite the temporary suspension, work on the terminal resumed at the contract rate once the suspension period ended.
The planned terminal, to be constructed on a 15,000 square meter plot reserved for state transport in front of Sector 26, Puneet Corner, has faced opposition from local citizens due to its proximity to heavily populated areas, schools, and colleges. Bhoir emphasizes the safety concerns associated with establishing a truck terminal in such a densely populated and busy location.
Bhoir's efforts to address these concerns include bringing the matter to the attention of MP Rajan Vichare and lobbying for the cancellation of the terminal's construction. He stresses the need for CIDCO to prioritize public safety and heed the opposition voiced by local residents.
Expressing firm opposition to the proposed terminal, Bhoir asserts that local citizens will vehemently protest against any attempts by CIDCO to proceed with its construction in the face of community objections.
