The Shri Ganesh Ramlila Ground in Sector-12, Nerul, which was initially intended to be a public space, has been largely handed over to a private educational complex by CIDCO. This decision has raised concerns as it is hindering the efforts of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to beautify the ground and develop it into a well-equipped sports field.
Former B Ward Committee member, Manoj Meher, has raised a demand for the ground to be transferred to NMMC so that it can be utilized for sports development. According to Meher, the lack of proper sports facilities in the area, particularly for players from Sarsole village, is stalling the growth of budding athletes. Without access to a fully equipped sports field, the players' skills cannot be nurtured, preventing the development of professional athletes from Sarsole village.
Meher emphasized that if CIDCO were to transfer the ground to NMMC, it would provide local players with access to much-needed training facilities. This, he believes, would not only help develop professional athletes but would also boost the village's recognition, bringing it to the same level as other successful sports communities in Navi Mumbai.
“It is crucial for the growth of our local talent that we have access to proper infrastructure. This sports field, if managed by the Municipal Corporation, can become a hub for developing professional players from Sarsole and make the village a name to be reckoned with in sports,” Meher stated.
