The persistent foul stench from an open nullah has left residents of Kausa struggling with unbearable living conditions. The stench has worsened in the past few months raising concerns about the horrible living conditions of Kausa residents.
Locals have reported that the stench becomes unbearable especially after evening forcing people to close their windows. Several shopkeepers have reported that the stench has increased in recent months as the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has not cleaned the nullah. They further added that the stench affects their income as customers avoid coming to the shop due to the stench.
Mannan Siddique, a resident from the area said, “My family and I have stopped passing from the lane as the stench has become unbearable for us.”
He added, “Many people have experienced headaches, dizziness, and breathing issues while passing from the lane”.
Residents have alleged that several fruit and vegetable vendors throw waste directly in the nalla instead of a dustbin which is a major cause for blockage.
Siddique said, “Many people have also thrown waste near the sewer due to which mosquitos and insects have increased in the area due to which residents and shopkeepers are facing inconvenience.”
Residents have urged the TMC to clean the sewer immediately as the issue will be worsened during monsoon, as the nullah will get blocked, and due to rainwater, the waste will spread out onto the road.
Residents have asked the local municipal authorities to start clean-up drives frequently, implement better waste management policies, and cover the open nullah so that similar issues can be prevented in the future.
