Foundation stone laid for Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Sports Complex in Thane

The foundation stone for the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Sports Complex was ceremoniously laid by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Sunday afternoon. This significant project, initiated by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), aims to develop the Borivade Ground in Kasarvadavali as part of the state government's initiative to enhance basic facilities in municipal areas.

The state government has allocated Rs. 75 crore under the Development of Basic Facilities in under the municipal jurisdiction area scheme for the development of reservations and facility plots in Ghodbunder Road Ward No. 1. Minister Sarnaik emphasized the importance of the sports complex, stating that it will serve as a vital resource for local citizens and athletes, promoting sports and physical fitness in the community.

The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former corporator Sadhana Joshi, former corporator Purvesh Sarnaik, Executive Engineer Sanjay Kadam, and Deputy Engineer B. V. Gavane, along with a large gathering of local residents.

The reserved plot for the Borivade Maidan spans 84,974 square meters, with plans to construct a gymkhana covering 6,819 square meters. The gymkhana will feature a variety of sports facilities, including a badminton court, cricket practice nets, wrestling areas, and a cafeteria. Additionally, the complex will accommodate outdoor games such as mallakhamb, kabaddi, hutu-tu, as well as, basketball and volleyball courts, and a skating track.

The project also includes plans for levelling the ground, constructing a protective wall, and creating an attractive entrance, all aimed at enhancing the overall experience for users of the sports complex.
