Ghansoli gaon residents protest CIDCO's decision to give away playground land

In a strong show of unity, residents from Ghansoli gaon recently gathered to protest CIDCO's decision to hand over a 40+ ground in their locality to a developer. The land, which was originally acquired for the development of Navi Mumbai, was supposed to be reserved for social amenities such as playgrounds and gardens. However, the decision to transfer this space to a private developer has sparked outrage among the local residents.

For years, the people of Ghansoli, along with other project-affected villages, have been fighting for official grounds and open spaces. Despite the land being taken from them for city development, the local communities have not been provided with the recreational facilities they were promised. Now, the issue of vanishing grounds has resurfaced as CIDCO has granted the 40+ ground to a developer, leading to concerns over the lack of open spaces in rapidly developing areas.

Hundreds of residents, led by representatives from Shri Devasthan Sanstha, Ghansoli Gaon, former corporators, and local social workers, gathered at the site for a protest. During the event, they emphasized the importance of reserving the land for a public playground and warned of further actions if their demands are not met. Key figures present included Sitaram Madhavi (President, Shri Devasthan Sanstha), Dwaraknath Bhoir (former President), Ghanshyam Madhavi (former corporator), Shankar Patil (President, 40+ Cricket Organization), and social workers Sanjay A. Patil, among others.

The villagers are calling on CIDCO to reconsider its decision and reserve the plot for the community, urging that without open spaces, the well-being of residents, particularly the youth, will be compromised. They have threatened to escalate their protest if the ground is not returned for public use.
