Ghansoli villagers oppose CIDCO’s residential development, demand community amenities

Residents of Ghansoli village have strongly opposed CIDCO’s recent decision to float a tender for Plot A1 in Sector 17, measuring 868 square meters, for residential development. The residents argue that the area already suffers from a lack of community amenities, such as parks, playgrounds, and community spaces, and are instead demanding a public park or a multipurpose facility for the local resident.

The residents, in a representation to the Commissioner of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), urged authorities to intervene and discuss the issue with CIDCO. They have proposed that the plot be used to develop a garden, gymnasium, senior citizens' entertainment centre, study hall for students, and an auditorium rather than more residential buildings.

Social activist Ganesh Sakpal expressed his disappointment, saying, “The people of Ghansoli village donated their lands for the development of Navi Mumbai, yet we struggle to secure even basic amenities like parks and community centres. We urge the NMMC Commissioner to prioritize public services over commercial development.”

Social activist, activist Sunil Maskar reiterated the demand, he said, “This plot should be allocated for civic services that benefit Ghansoli’s residents.”

Former Gavaki Ghansoli President Chetan Patil also voiced his frustration, “We have sacrificed our lands for the city's growth, and now we have nowhere for our children to play or for our senior citizens to relax. If this land is not allocated for public welfare, we will be forced to protest.”

Responding to the concerns, CIDCO Public Relations Officer Priya Ratambe assured that the development body values public welfare and will communicate the objections raised by the residents to the Marketing Department. “CIDCO is open to dialogue with the community, and we will ensure that the concerns regarding this plot are conveyed appropriately,” she said.
