In a bid to encourage suburban train passengers to travel with valid tickets, Central Railway (CR) is set to introduce the ‘Lucky Yatri Yojana’, a unique reward scheme offering cash prizes to honest commuters. The initiative, expected to launch next week, will run for eight weeks, incentivising passengers who hold either single-journey tickets or season passes.

As part of the scheme, one lucky commuter will receive Rs 10,000 every day, while a weekly bumper prize of Rs 50,000 will also be up for grabs. Winners will be selected through a random process conducted by ticket checkers at railway stations. Upon verifying their ticketing details, the selected passengers will be handed their cash prize on the spot.

“This scheme is open to all ticketed commuters, regardless of their travel class or ticket type. It is designed to promote fair ticketing practices and reward genuine passengers,” said a Central Railway spokesperson.

CR has assured that the scheme will not impose any additional cost on passengers. Instead, it is being fully sponsored by FCB Interface Communication Pvt Ltd.

With this initiative, Central Railway aims to tackle ticket evasion while appreciating passengers who abide by the rules. The scheme is expected to generate excitement among daily commuters and foster a culture of responsible travel on Mumbai’s bustling suburban railway network.
