High-tension cable heist exposes MSEDCL’s negligence

In a shocking incident, a High-Tension (HT) cable crucial for ensuring uninterrupted power supply to villages, container yards, and businesses in Uran East Division was stealthily robbed on Wednesday, January 24th. The stolen power cable, estimated to be worth crores of rupees, has ignited discussions among the residents, with many speculating about possible connivance between contractors and officials from the MSEDCL.

Residents of the eastern division have long been grappling with frequent disruptions to electricity supply during the night. Both Santosh Thakur, Shiv Sena's taluka chief, and Satyawan Bhagat, MNS's taluka president, have persistently urged Mahavitaran office to address the issue. Two years ago, contractors were assigned the task of laying a new HT cable at a cost of approximately Rs. 8 crores to alleviate the persistent power supply challenges. However, the cable was mysteriously severed on the night of January 24th.

As incidents of burglary rise in the Uran East Division, the theft of the high-value cable has intensified concerns among citizens. All eyes are now on the MSEDCL’s engineers to see what concrete actions they take in response to this significant security lapse.

Vijay Sonawane, Deputy Engineer at the General Distribution Office in Uran, is investigating whether the stolen cable was not stolen but rather removed by the contractors. He stated, "We inquire into the matter”.

Expressing concern over the incident, Satyawan Bhagat, the MNS Taluka President, emphasized the need for the MSEDCL official to take legal action against those compromising the crucial electricity supply infrastructure. "In order to provide smooth electricity to the villages of Uran East Division, the authorities of MSEDCL had taken up the task of laying cables from Khopta Bridge by spending crores of rupees. If anyone is cutting and wasting electricity from that electricity supply cable without providing smooth electricity supply, the authorities of Mahavitaran Company should take legal action against such people," he stated.
