Indian women’s squad for ODI series against New Zealand announced

Harmanpreet to lead the 16-member squad, Smriti to be her deputy
The Women’s Selection Committee has picked India's 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match IDFC FIRST Bank ODI home series against New Zealand. The same which will be e hosted by Ahmedabad from Thursday 24th October, 2024 onwards have been selected with focus on the upcoming ICC Women’s ODI World Cup to be hosted by India.
The Indian team will be once again lead by top order batter Harmanpreet Kaur, with opener Smriti Mandhana as her deputy, following the failure of the exit from the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup following their rivals win in the last Group A league game against Pakistan and will take on West Indies in the second semis on Friday night.
Richa Ghosh, Asha Sobhana and Pooja Vastrakar are the notable omissions from the squad. While Wicket Keeper batter Richa will be unavailable owing to her forthcoming Class XII Board exams and her place will be taken by Uma Chetry, with attacking wicket keeper-batter Yastika Bhatia, as the number one choice for the role behind the wicket.
Legspinner Asha, who suffered a knee injury right against six times defending champions Australia, fitness progress is being monitored by BCCI's medical team Pacer Pooja, who also picked up a niggle during India's T20 World Cup campaign, has been rested for the series.
The selectors have decided to reward Maharashtra's Tejal Hasabnis with a place in the squad following her strong show (where she hit three half-centuries) against India A in Australia G Sayali Satgare and Priya Mishra and Saima Thakor are the others who too have received a maiden call in to the squad.
