Navi Mumbai: IndiGo Airlines will operate from both Mumbai’s Terminal 1 (T1) and the soon-to-open Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), CEO Peter Elbers confirmed at a press briefing in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Amid uncertainty over airlines relocating operations to NMIA, Elbers clarified that IndiGo will follow a dual-airport strategy. “We’ll start flying from Navi Mumbai as soon as it opens, but we’re not pulling out of T1,” he said, likening the approach to the airline’s dual operations at Goa’s two airports.
Elbers noted that while IndiGo awaits operational clarity from NMIA authorities, all stakeholders are assessing the impact of any shift.
In a related announcement, Elbers revealed a strategic partnership with global hospitality group Accor. The collaboration will integrate IndiGo’s BluChips and Accor’s ‘ALL – Accor Live Limitless’ loyalty programmes, offering customers the ability to redeem points across flights and hotel stays.
The tie-up aligns with IndiGo’s global expansion strategy. The airline plans to add 10 new destinations next fiscal year and is awaiting Airbus A321XLR deliveries, which will allow long-haul services to Europe, Australia, and the Middle East.
Further deepening its travel footprint, IndiGo’s parent company, InterGlobe Enterprises, will invest in budget hotel chain Treebo alongside Accor. Treebo, operating 800+ hotels across 120 cities, will spearhead the expansion of Accor’s Ibis and Mercure brands under a master licence.
The partnership aims to create India’s third-largest hospitality network, with over 30,000 rooms, and is aligned with Accor’s goal to operate 300 hotels in India by 2030.
Accor CEO Sébastien Bazin called the collaboration “transformative,” combining global reach, local presence, and technology to unlock India’s travel potential.
