JNPA achieves 13.55% growth, hits record container throughput

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has achieved a significant milestone by handling a record-breaking 7.3 million TEUs in the financial year 2024-25, marking an impressive 13.55% growth compared to the previous year.
At a stakeholders' meeting held to celebrate this success, Unmesh Sharad Wagh, chairman and CMD of VPPL, emphasised the port’s commitment to modernization and operational excellence.
He highlighted that the record throughput was a testament to the dedication of terminal operators, the trust of trade partners, and seamless coordination within the port ecosystem. He further stated that JNPA remains at the forefront of port-led development by integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainable practices to ensure smooth trade facilitation.
The past year witnessed several milestones across JNPA’s terminals.
BMCT set a new benchmark by handling 2.27 million TEUs, including a record 222,201 TEUs in March 2025, the highest ever container handling by any terminal.
APMT maintained its position as a leading terminal by handling 2.08 million TEUs, while NSDT recorded its highest-ever cargo handling with 1.8 million tonnes of cement and 0.45 million tonnes of steel.
BMCT’s Phase-2 operations commenced in February 2025, further boosting capacity.
The port also achieved its highest-ever rail volume, surpassing the previous year’s numbers, while the Centralized Parking Plaza set a new record by handling 1,05,850 TEUs in March 2025.
Additionally, the liquid terminal operations at JJLTPL began in November 2024.
The stakeholders' meeting brought together key players from the port and logistics sectors, including representatives from BMCT, DP World, APMT, BPCL, NSFT, NSDT, and JJLTPL, as well as trade organizations like CSLA, MANSA, CFSAI, and BCBA.
