Kalyan-Dombivli: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) is gearing up to enhance road cleanliness with a new mechanised cleaning initiative covering approximately 54 kilometres of cement concrete roads across the region.

This development follows the directives of KDMC Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhad and is part of an effort funded through the Dust Mitigation component under the 15th Finance Commission.

A recent tender on the GeM portal has led to the award of the contract for purchasing road sweeping machines to M/s. CAM Avida, Pune. The KDMC is set to receive four state-of-the-art road sweeping machines, which are expected to arrive soon. Following their delivery, these machines will be registered with the Sub-Regional Transport Office before the cleaning operations commence.

The road sweeping machines, each with a capacity of 6.5 cubic metres and powered by CNG fuel, are equipped with advanced technology designed to improve road cleanliness and environmental sustainability. Features include a main brush at the rear and two side brushes positioned between the wheels, along with a suction hose pipe to remove debris from beneath parked vehicles.

This mechanised approach aims to effectively control road dust, thereby reducing the incidence of respiratory and lung-related illnesses among local residents. Each machine will be operated by a driver and three workers, with cleaning activities primarily scheduled for the night shift. The Solid Waste Management Department will oversee the operations, with Mukadam and Swachhta Inspectors ensuring efficient management.
