The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) caught a clerk working with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1,500.
The accused, Santosh Gajanan Patne (52), was working in the marriage registration department at the Citizen Facilitation Centre in Khadakgolvali, Kalyan East. The incident occurred on April 9.
He had demanded Rs 2,000 from the complainant to expedite the issuance of a marriage certificate, despite discrepancies in the application related to non-local witnesses.
The complainant approached the Thane ACB, and investigations confirmed the veracity of the allegations against Patne. After negotiations, Patne agreed to accept Rs 1,500.
An ACB team caught Patne red-handed while accepting the money from the complainant.
A case has been registered at Kolsewadi police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
