Kalyan: In a bid to ease traffic congestion in Kalyan-Dombivli, the Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police have launched a unique experiment by installing a mobile traffic signal system at Sahajanand Chowk, one of the busiest intersections in Kalyan West.

The “solar-based portable stand-alone signal system” has been introduced on a trial basis, considering the five roads converging at the junction.

Executive Engineer Prashant Bhagwat of the Corporation’s Electrical Department stated that a permanent signal system will be installed after a month-long study of traffic patterns.

Agra Road, a key thoroughfare in the area, sees thousands of vehicles daily. Managing traffic at major junctions like Durgadi Chowk, Lal Chowki, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk remains challenging.

To avoid wastage of public funds, the trial aims to assess traffic flow, identify one-way routes, evaluate divider adjustments, and determine the repositioning of high-mast poles before implementing a permanent solution under the Smart City project.
