The residents of Karanjade, plagued by a persistent water shortage for several years, are set to stage a Rasta Roko on June 18. Social worker Vinod Sable announced the protest, which will take place on the JNPT road adjacent to Karanjade colony.

Speaking to the media, Sable stated that the residents are forced to carry the protest following inaction from CIDCO.

“Karanjade Colony, developed by CIDCO, has been grappling with inadequate water supply, leaving residents in distress. Despite warnings from residents to improve the water supply by June 10, no corrective action has been taken by CIDCO. This has prompted the decision to stage Rasta Roko”, pointed out Sable

A meeting chaired by Vinod Sable with Karanjade residents a few days ago resulted in an ultimatum being issued to CIDCO to address the water supply issue by June 10. The deadline passed without any improvement, leading to heightened frustration among the residents.

On Sunday, another meeting of Karanjade residents reaffirmed the decision to hold the Rasta Roko protest. Vinod Sable emphasized that the agitation will continue until the water issue is resolved. He called for a large turnout from all Karanjade residents to support the movement.

Women, particularly affected by the water scarcity, are expected to participate in the protest in large numbers, underscoring the severity of the situation. "We are now going to take to the streets because of the water, which is a daily necessity," said a resident. "We have to buy water. The women warned that they would block the road and demand answers from CIDCO."

Rameshwar Angre, another resident, echoed the community's resolve, stating that Karanjade residents are determined not to remain silent until their water supply is restored.
