Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation’s (KDMC) Commissioner Dr. Indurani Jakhar recently presided over a crucial meeting at the municipal headquarters to tackle traffic disruptions caused by the ongoing Kalyan-Taloja Metro-12 project on Kalyan Shil Road. The project, which has commenced work on the vital Kalyan Shil Road, a major route carrying heavy vehicle traffic, has necessitated the installation of iron barricades, significantly narrowing the road and exacerbating traffic congestion.
The meeting brought together senior officers and engineers from MMRDA, MSRDC, Traffic Police, and Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) to strategize on minimizing traffic disruptions while continuing metro project activities in limited space.
Key discussions centered around the allocation of space required for metro construction on Kalyan Shil Road and addressing associated traffic issues. The MSRDC was directed to expedite the widening of the road by acquiring necessary land, ensuring completion of lane works and stone paving.
To manage traffic flow effectively, it was agreed that Metro Authority officials would deploy Traffic Wardens, install notice boards, and safety devices as per directives from the Traffic Police. Additionally, plans were drafted to divert heavy vehicle traffic from Shell Road to alternate routes via Badlapur Pipe Road, Malang Road, and Chakki Naka, while smaller vehicles would be redirected through Manpada Road.
Further initiatives discussed included coordinating with MMRDA to develop a dedicated planning authority road (DP road) for the metro between Manpada station and Hedutne, ensuring comprehensive integration of metro infrastructure with local planning.
MSRDC officials also indicated that a proposal to transfer Sheel Road's management to MMRDA was being evaluated, highlighting ongoing efforts to streamline administrative responsibilities for efficient project execution.
