The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has taken a significant step in supporting the disabled community with the inauguration of the Physiotherapy and Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Centre, located in a spacious 7,000 square feet area at Sangliwadi, Kalyan (West). The new facility, which aims to provide specialized care for the disabled, was inaugurated by MP Dr. Shrikant Eknath Shinde on Friday, 17th January.
During the inauguration, Dr. Shinde expressed his appreciation for the centre, “Calling it a boon for the disabled in Kalyan and nearby areas”. He noted that prior to the centre’s establishment, many disabled individuals had to rely on private hospitals for physiotherapy and other treatments. The new centre will provide a much-needed alternative for these individuals, helping them access essential rehabilitation services closer to home.
The initiative, praised by KDMC Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar, was developed to offer a range of health services for the disabled under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
Dr. Jakhar emphasized the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation's commitment to the overall development and empowerment of the disabled, bringing them into the mainstream of society.
MLA Sulabha Gaikwad of Kalyan East and MLA Rajesh More of Kalyan Rural also expressed their appreciation for the new centre, offering their congratulations and support for the initiative.
Ashok Bhoir, President of the Association for the Development With Disabled, acknowledged the Municipal Corporation's efforts and praised the initiative, which will benefit thousands of disabled people in the region. The centre will provide free physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to disabled individuals registered with KDMC, while those from outside the municipality or unregistered individuals can access treatment at a nominal fee of Rs. 500.
Key officials present at the inauguration included Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Zende, Additional Commissioner Yogesh Godse, City Engineer Anita Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Jadhav, and other distinguished guests.
