KDMC launches special cleaning campaign to boost air quality

In a bid to improve the air quality index in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) region, the municipal administration has initiated an extensive road cleaning campaign. Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar and with the guidance of Additional Commissioner Harshal Gaikwad and Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department Atul Patil, the campaign commenced on December 5, 2024, focusing on making roads dust-free and clean.
The initiative involves a meticulously planned operation wherein 23 roads are cleaned using power sweeper machines and 57 roads by manual cleaning teams, all executed in six night shifts. The operation in Dombivli is supervised by Deputy Chief Sanitation Officer Rajendra Khaire.
Additional Commissioner Harshal Gaikwad and Deputy Commissioner Atul Patil, along with Sixth Commissioner Priti Gade, conducted inspections on December 6 and 7. They reviewed the night-shift cleaning operations in various wards, including: 1/A Ward: Mohne Gate area, 2/B Ward: Prem Auto to Vatex and Khadakpada to Jhulelal Chowk, 8/C Ward: Indira Gandhi Chowk to Gavdevi Mandir area and Malang Road
During the inspections, sanitation officers and workers were provided guidance to overcome challenges and enhance the quality of work.
The cleaning drive involved 4 power sweeper vehicles and a workforce of 200 personnel, under the supervision of local sanitation inspectors. The campaign has already yielded significant results, with approximately 15 tons of dust and soil and 150 tons of garbage removed from roads. Dust removal vehicles are also being deployed for additional support.
This special drive has already contributed to improved air quality in the KDMC area. The Solid Waste Management Department has confirmed that the initiative will be sustained over the coming weeks to ensure long-term benefits.
